Mystery of cooking oil thefts at Rumblin Tums in East Grinstead

News   •   Mar 08, 2019 15:49 GMT

Police in East Grinstead are trying to solve a mystery at a local café which has been targeted for thefts of cooking oil.

Local people are being asked if they have seen any suspicious activity at or near the Rumblin Tums cafe in The Parade, London Road, East Grinstead, from where there have been many thefts of drums containing used cooking oil over the past nine years, the most recent incident being on 20 February.

The estimated total loss to the café owners is £18,720.

The oil drums have been taken in the early hours of the morning from the rear yard at the café where they have been stored as waste awaiting legitimate removal after use.

PCSO Nathan Lax said; “We have made detailed enquiries into these incidents but so far nobody has seen anything and they have occurred sporadically - there has been no fixed pattern to the thefts so it has been difficult to establish information about any suspects or vehicles.

"Although each individual theft may not be of great value, the cumulative impact on the café proprietors is mounting.

“If you have any information that might help, please contact us online or by calling 101, quoting serial 316 of 08/03."
