A man detained by an off-duty police officer has been charged with committing multiple offences in Brighton.
Abbas Ahmad was arrested by the officer in London Road shortly before 1pm on Friday 6 September.
During the incident, an elderly woman was knocked to the floor and sustained a head injury. She was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment and has since been discharged.
Ahmad, 38, a restauranteur, of no fixed address, is charged with assault, offering to supply cannabis, possession with intent to supply cannabis, assault on an emergency worker and obstructing a police officer in the execution of their duty.
He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 7 September, where he was remanded in custody ahead of a pre-trial preparation hearing on Friday 4 October.
